The world’s species biodiversity is today about twice the average level of the past 450 million years – yet the species extinction rate today is over 1000 times higher than the rate prior to human expansion around the planet. We are in danger of losing much of nature’s biodiversity within the lifetime of our children.
CAZA members participate in close to 800 ex-situ programs and are directly involved in 20 field projects, most linked directly to reintroduction programs, CAZA’s Canadian Collection Plan is a series of long-term breeding and conservation projects that provide insurance policies against extinction for key Canadian endangered species such as the Vancouver Island Marmot, the Burrowing Owl, the Loggerhead Shrike, the Wolverine, the Black-Footed Ferret and others.
CAZA is a registered as a charity with Revenue Canada Agency and all donations to support conservation programs are tax deductable. Registration Number 12305 7119 RR0001
